Subjects to be covered : Cations , anions and salt analysis

Cations :

1) Ag group : Ag+, Pb+2 , Hg2+2
2) Ba – Mg group : Ba+2 , Mg+2, Ca+2 , Na+, K+, NH4+
3) Ni – Al group : Ni+2, Co+2 , Mn+2, Fe+3, Al+3, Cr+3, Zn+2
4) Cu – As group : Cu+2, Cd+2, Hg+2, Bi+3, As+3, Sb+3, Sn+4
5) General cation analysis will cover all of these cations

Anions :

1) Group I anions: SO4-2 (7 anions)
2) Group II anions: Cl- group (6 anions)
3) Group III anions: NO3- group (4 anions)
4) General anion analysis will cover all of these anions

Salts :

1) water soluble single salt
2) water insoluble single salt
3) salt mixture ( one water soluble + one water insoluble )

Lecture hours: 2 hours of lecture , 2 hours of problem session

Lab hours: 2 hours of lab, twice a week
100 % attendance will be required for the lectures and labs

GRADING : 2 midterm exams 20% each
Final exam 30%
Lab work 30%
LAB WORK : First a known solution will be worked to understand the process. Then an
unknown solution will be given to each student separately. The report of the unknown will be
graded. Before working the unknown sample , a quiz related with the experiment to be done
will be given
Quiz grade 15 %
Unknown report 85 %
